Animated Movies Throughout the Years: 2006 Note: Walt Disney Feature Animation (soon to be renamed Walt Disney Animation Studios) didn't release a single film this year.

There were two animated movies released in February that year. The first was Curious George, based on the beloved books by Hans and Margret Ray. It was also the only American hand-drawn animated film that year to be released in theaters. Curious George was popular enough to spawn a TV series on PBS Kids.

The second was Doogal, a horrific dub of the French CGI film The Magic Roundabout. It's considered by many as the worst animated movie of all time.

March saw the return of Manny, Sid, and Diego in Blue Sky's third feature film Ice Age 2: The Meltdown. This is what Rotten Tomatoes has to say about this movie: "Despite its impressive animation and the hilarious antics of the saber-toothed squirrel Scrat, Ice Age 2: The Meltdown comes up short on the storytelling front." I personally thought the film was sexist, as Manny only wanted Ellie so he could mate with her to save their species.

April saw the release of The Wild, a Madagascar knockoff that was distributed by Disney, but was produced by Canadian studio CORE Design.

In May, DreamWorks released their 10th animated film (excluding Aardman features) Over the Hedge. This was the second CGI DreamWorks film to not involve PDI (the first being Shark Tale), got mixed to positive reviews, and earned over 300 million dollars at the box-office.

June saw the release of Pixar's seventh feature film Cars. While it got weaker reviews than previous Pixar films, Cars did get the Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature. However, it lost to Happy Feet, Australia's first CGI movie.

In July, Robert Zemeckis released his second motion-capture film Monster House. While it’s technically not an animated film, Monster House got the Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature.

There were two animated movies released in August. The first was Barnyard: The Original Party Animals, Nickelodeon's second CGI movie. It got very negative reviews, but managed to gross enough money to pay off its budget.

The second was The Ant Bully, from the same director and animation studio that did Jimmy Neutron. It got better reviews than 'Barnyard', but unfortunately didn't make enough money to pay off its budget, and even forced production house DNA Productions (who also created the Jimmy Neutron movie and TV series) to shut down.

September saw the release of the kid-friendly Everyone's Hero, which was about a young boy from New York who must return Babe Ruth's lucky baseball and bat. It got lukewarm reviews, but managed to win the Heartland Award for Truly Moving Picture.

Also released in September was Sony Pictures Animation's first feature film, Open Season. Like other animated movies that year, Open Season got mixed reviews, but grossed enough money to pay off its budget.

In October, the rather embarrassing Romeo & Juliet: Sealed With a Kiss was shown at Los Angelas, California. It was animated, written, produced, and directed by veteran Disney animator Phil Nibbelink, and told the story of Romeo and Juliet with seals. It was a box-office flop and got rather negative reviews, even going as far as being regarded as one of the worst animated movies in recent years.

On November 3rd, DreamWorks and Aardman released their third and final film together, Flushed Away. Instead of being stop-motion that Aardman is best known for, Flushed Away was animated using CGI. This was because there was lots of water in the film, and water is extremely difficult to animate in stop-motion. Unfortunately, the film was a bust, and DreamWorks and Aardman disbanded from one another in 2007.

And finally, on November (or as it was stylized, Novemburr) 17th, Happy Feet premiered and did very well at the box-office. Despite getting mixed reviews, Happy Feet won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature that year over Cars. That's all I have to say for this week's Animated Movies Throughout the Years! Movie Review: How To Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World                                                  2-22-19

In the final chapter of one of most beloved animated franchises in the last decade, Hiccup and Toothless encounter a dragon poacher named Grimmel, and he won't rest until every Night Fury is dead. Hiccup, who is now chief, decides that Berke should relocate to a so-called 'Hidden World' of wild dragons. Toothless also falls in love with a female Night Fury, nicknamed a 'Light Fury' by Astrid, who doesn't seem to trust humans.

Now, what do I think of How To Train Your Dragon 3? I think it's the best animated three-quill since Toy Story 3! The film has top-notch animation, the characters are just as memorable as they were nine years ago, the music by John Powell is Grammy-worthy, and the story is a step above the second one!

Hiccup and Astrid witness a swarm of Fire-Worms (a type of dragon) while in the Hidden World.

Grimmel is also probably an even better than Drago was in the last movie. He's someone that Disney during the 1990s would've created, but a little grittier.

I won't give away the ending, but I'll tell you this: It will make the ending of Toy Story 3 cry for its money.

In conclusion, How To Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World is a must-see film and the perfect conclusion to the How To Train Your Dragon trilogy.

Animated Movies Throughout the Years: 2005

Note: Pixar did not release a single film this year.

The year began with Pooh's Heffalump Movie in February, in which Roo befriends a Heffalump, which the other characters are afraid of. This was the last Winnie the Pooh movie for voice actor John Fiedler, the voice of Piglet. He passed away in June 2005.

March saw the release of Blue Sky's follow-up to the hugely successful Ice Age, the rather underrated Robots. While it was almost forgotten a few years after it premiered, it has become a cult favorite thanks to the Internet. In fact, Rachel compared it favorably to Zootopia.

In May, PDI/DreamWorks released their fourth collaboration, Madagascar. While it got mixed reviews, it was very successful at the box-office. Madagascar also spanned two sequels, two holiday specials, and even a TV series starring the Penguins.

June saw the US release of Studio Ghibli's Howl's Moving Castle. While declared their worst among Ghibli fans, the film did get the Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature.

In August, the short-lived Vanguard Animation Studios released their first feature-film, Valiant. It has only 32% on Rotten Tomatoes, but I personally think it should be higher.

September saw Tim Burton's return to stop-motion animation with Corpse Bride. It did well at the box-office, got great reviews, and even got the Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature. However, it lost to Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

October saw the release of England's favorite dog and man duo in their first feature film, Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. While it got great reviews, the film only did modestly in America. However, it did win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

In November, Disney released their first CGI movie WITHOUT Pixar, Chicken Little. While it got mainly negative reviews, it did earn enough money to pay off its budget.

And finally, in December, the tale of Little Red Riding Hood got turned upside-down and inside-out with the CG adventure Hoodwinked! It had horrible animation, but managed to have clever writing and some likable characters. That's all I have to say for this week's Animated Movies Throughout the Years! Tune in next

In January, the criminally underrated Teacher’s Pet premiered. While it got very good reviews upon release, the film did very poorly at the box-office.

In April, there was Disney's 45th animated film Home on the Range, which, at the time, was Disney's last hand-drawn film. The film ended up being a box-office flop and got rather bad reviews.

In May, there was Shrek 2, which would go on to gross over 900 million dollars worldwide. It also got the Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature, but lost to The Incredibles.

In June, we had the US release of Europe's first CGI movie, Kaena: The Prophecy. While I don't hate it like other people do, I felt 'Kaena' had plasticky animation and a confusing plot.

August saw the US release of the critically panned Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie. I honestly haven't seen it, but I heard it wasn't that good.

In October, DreamWorks released their fourth CGI film Shark Tale. While it earned more than enough money to pay off its budget, and got the Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature, the film got rather negative reviews. However, my mom likes it.

In November, we jumped into action with Pixar's sixth feature film, and their first PG-rated film, The Incredibles. This film got very good reviews when it premiered, and is arguably the best animated film of that year. The Incredibles won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature that year.

Also released in November, the ever popular anthropomorphic sea sponge starred in his first movie, simply called The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. I'm actually not that fond of this movie because I feel the physics of the SpongeBob world don't belong on the big screen.

And finally, in December of that year, Robert Zemeckis's first motion-capture film, The Polar Express, was released. It was based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg. While it had dazzling CG backgrounds and effects, the realistic motion-captured human characters had rather dead-looking eyes and faces.

February saw the theatrical release of another unasked Disney sequel, The Jungle Book 2. The film got rather negative reviews, with a low rating of 19% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it did do one thing right: They gave the girl Mowgli fell in love with at the end of the original film a name, Shanti.

In March, the cuddly critters from the Hundred Acre Woods returned in Piglet's Big Movie. When Piglet goes missing after being ridiculed by everyone else for being too small, Pooh, Tigger, Rabbit, Eeyore, and Roo go on a quest to find Piglet using his newly-made scrapbook.

On May 16th, the Pokémon made their final appearance on the Silver Screen in the US with Pokémon Heroes. However, later Pokémon movies would be released in theaters in Japan, while direct-to-video in other territories. This movie is notable for having the first two Legendary Dragons: Latios and Latias.

On May 30th, Pixar made a tsunami with their fifth feature film, Finding Nemo. The film got the best reviews of any movie that year, grossed over 871 million dollars worldwide at the box-office, and won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

In June, the Rugrats made their third and final big screen appearance in Rugrats Go Wild, which co-starred The Wild Thornberrys. While it got mainly negative reviews, the film earned enough money to pay off its budget. However, there’s going to be another Rugrats movie in November 2020, but the unthinkable: A live-action Rugrats with CGI babies.

July saw the release of DreamWorks' final hand-drawn film Sinbad: Legends of the Seven Seas. It unfortunately tanked at the box-office because it had to compete against Finding Nemo and Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.

In August, The French-produced Triplets of Bellville premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado and received critical acclaim. 'Belleville' also got the Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature, but lost to Finding Nemo.

And finally, in November, Disney's 44th animated feature Brother Bear premiered. It was the final film to be animated at the Florida Studio. Despite receiving mixed reviews, it did get the Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature, as well as win the Heartland Award for Truly Moving Picture*. *The Heartland Award for Truly Moving picture is an Award given by the Heartland Film Festival. It is celebrated each year in Indianapolis, Indiana since 1992. Unlike your average Award show, the Heartland Award for Truly Moving Picture can have more than one winner per year.
