Story Announcement #8

On March 6th, I will begin posting a Pokemon version of Disney•Pixar's Finding Nemo, called Little Lost Luvdisc. I wanted to make this story because I have written a Pokemon story involving a Grass-Type Starter (Meganium in The Land before Kanto) and a Pokemon story involving a Fire-Type Starter (Emboar in The Shinx Who Would Be King), but no stories with a Water-Type Starter. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, Starter Pokemon are Pokemon players get to choose at the beginning of each Pokemon game. There are 21 Starter Pokemon, all of which are seven individual three-stage families. The players get to choose from a Water, Fire, or Grass-Type Starter Pokemon. Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle are all examples of Grass-Type starters.

Anyway, the Water-Type Starters that will appear in my story will be Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise, who will take the roles of the surfing sea turtles.

For Marlin and Nemo, the iconic clownfish in the movie, I chose Luvdisc for both of them.
Picture
I chose Luvdisc because it lives symbiotically with the Pokemon Corsola, which is based on coral, but also has some traits similar to a sea anemone.
Picture
For Dory, the famous forgetful blue tang, I chose Seaking. I am aware that Seaking, along with Goldeen, are freshwater, but at the moment, we only have 35 fish Pokemon.
Picture
For Mr. Ray, the stingray teacher who loves to sing, I used Mantine, which is based on the manta ray.
Picture
For the Tank Gang, an Alomomola will take the place of Gill...
Picture
A Bruxish will take the place of Bubbles, the yellow fish obsessed with bubbles...
Picture
A Basculin (one with red stripes) will take the place of Gurgle, the germaphobic royal gramma...
Picture
A Lumineon will take the place of Deb, the damselfish who mistakes her reflection for another fish...
Picture
A Qwilfish will take the place of Bloat the pufferfish...
Picture
A Starmie will take the place of Peach the starfish...
Picture
And an Anorith will take the place of Jaques the cleaner shrimp.
Picture
For Bruce, the great white shark who hosts a carnivores anonymous  meeting, I used the dangerous Dark/Water-Type shark Sharpedo.
Picture
However, like Bruce, he will have a heart of gold.
For Phil Sherman, the absent-minded dentist who kidnaps Nemo, I used May, the protagonist/rival of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, depending on the player's gender.

Instead of working as a dentist like Phil, May, who will be in her mid 20s, will be a teacher teaching young Pokemon trainers intermediate battle tactics. She will have Pokemon from both the anime and the video games in this story.
For everyone and everything else, you'll find out as the story progresses. Instead of taking place in Australia like 'Nemo', Little Lost Luvdisc will take place in Hoenn, the region players get to explore in Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald.

I will begin posting Little Lost Luvdisc on March 6th.

Movie Review: Hairspray

Movie Review: Hairspray                                                                                                                            2-9-18

In this underappreciated 2007 Broadway-style musical, Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky) in 1960s Baltimore wishes to be on the TV series The Corny Collins Show. When her chance arrives, she grooves her way into instant stardom and the eyes of teen dream Link Larkin (Zac Efron). But when the show's scheming stage manager Velma Von Tossle (Michelle Pfeiffer) plots against Tracy, she will need help from her best friend Penny (Amanda Bynes), her big-hearted mother (John Travolta in drag), and sassy co-host Motormouth Maybelle (Queen Latifa) to show the world that all it takes to make a dream come true is a toe-tapping beat and a little hairspray!
Now, what do I think of Hairspray? I think Hairspray is a musical that rivals Frozen and La La Land with life-like production design and sets, catchy songs, and likable characters. In fact, I think Tracy Turnblad is a perfect role model for girls.

Tracy is ridiculed for not only being fat, but also appreciating "Negro Day". She wants African Americans to have equal rights to be on The Corny Collins Show with Caucasians.
John Travolta is also perfect and hilarious as Tracy's mom Edna.
John Travolta in Hairspray (2007)
I have seen many TV shows and movies with a man playing a woman, but none as effective and believable as this.
Velma Van Tossle is also a threatening and realistic villain: She is, along with her daughter Amber, a racist and a sizeist. Velma hates having African Americans on The Corny Collins Show because she believes they will make the show lose ratings. She also doesn't like Tracy because not only for her weight, but also because she stole her daughter's fame and fortune. Velma even went as far as calling Tracy a communist for wanting African Americans to be on the show.
Velma Von Tossle arguing with Corny Collins,
In conclusion, Hairspray is a fun film for the whole family. It is also a perfect film to watch on Martin Luther King Jr Day, even if it's a bit late for that as I'm typing this review.
Rating: The perfect rating of 5 stars.
Warning: This movie deals with racism, so some single-digit kids might not understand it.

Oscarless Animated Films Bonus Round

Oscarless Animated Films Bonus Round: In This Corner of the World (2016)
In This Corner of the World Poster
Warning! This movie is rated PG-13, so if kids are reading this, they should ask a parent to read it with them.
There has been a big change for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature: There has been a new rule stating that everyone at the Academy of Motion Pictures and the Arts should decide together on which animated movie deserve the award, and not just the animation experts and professionals. These are the finalists for Best Animated Feature.

From left to right: The Breadwinner, Ferdinand, Coco, The Boss Baby, and Loving Vincent.
This has flabbergasted millions of people that The Boss Baby got the Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature, and superior films like The LEGO Batman Movie, Captain Underpants, and Cars 3 got snubbed. This especially angered anime fans, since two critically acclaimed anime films made it to the US this year and got really good reviews. These two movies are In This Corner of the World and A Silent Voice. Today, I will be talking about In This Corner of the World.
Based on the manga by Fumiyo Kouno, In This Corner of the World tells the emotional story of Suzu, a young girl from Hiroshima, who's just become a bride in the nearby city of Kure during World War 2. Living with her husband's family, Suzu has to adjust to her new life, which is especially difficult by regular air raids. But life must go on, and Suzu, through the help of her new family and neighbors, begins to discover the joys of everyday life in Kure. Much is gained in Kure, but with war, many things cherished are also lost.
It's extremely surprising that this movie didn't get the Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature. It is so much better than many of the mainstream American animated films released in 2017. For starters, the animation is stylized and Ghibli quality.
The story is also very compelling and more engaging than Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises, which was also set in World War 2.
Kaze tachinu (2013)
In case you forgot/didn't know, The Wind Rises looks something like this.
The characters, mainly the protagonist Suzu, are also very likable and relatable, though not as compelling as other contemporary anime classics like The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, Your Name, or, even though I haven't seen it yet, Wolf Children.
Kono sekai no katasumi ni (2016)
In conclusion, In This Corner of the World is an anime film that deserves to get the 2018 Oscar for Best Animated Feature nomination instead of The Boss Baby. instead, however, I reward this movie five trophy Emojis.
🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
For those kids reading this review, you'll have to wait until you're at least 12 to watch this movie.
