Oscarless Cartoons Part 10

Oscarless Cartoons Part 10: Inner Workings (2016)

This short film was originally shown in front of Disney's Moana in theaters, and can be viewed on the DVD and Blu-Ray release of the movie. So what is Inner Workings? Let's find out.
Inner Workings is about a middle-aged man named Paul, and his organs, his brain, heart, lungs, stomach, and even bladder, control whatever he does. His heart wants to do fun things like dance in the shower and surf in the ocean, but the brain believes all the possible outcomes would be Paul's death.

When Paul finally arrives at his job, titled 'Boring, Boring, and Glum', everyone looks bored and sad. Brain imagines what would happen if all Paul did was work at his job until he becomes old and miserably walks to his coffin and waits to die.
Brain decides that he should let the other organs have fun while Paul is still in his prime: He lets the heart play on the beach, lets the stomach eat a big breakfast at a diner, and lets the bladder urinate in the ocean.
At first glance, you might be reminded of Inside Out. However, I believe Inner Workings has closer roots to the 1943 cartoon, Reason and Emotion, which was also source material for Inside Out. It was one of the many WWII propaganda cartoons that the Disney studios was forced to make during the 1940s. In this short, there are two people inside a human's brain: A reckless caveman named Emotion, and an upright gentleman named Reason. It's a bit of an ancestor to Inside Out.

However, instead of having a happy ending like Inside Out or Inner Workings, Reason and Emotion has a rather depressing ending with several soldiers dying.
I believe the reason Inner Workings didn't get the Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short Film because back in 2015, fans were mad that Feast, the short shown in front of Big Hero 6, won that Oscar, even though there were other short films that year that were better. Instead, Pixar's short film from last year, Piper, won the 2016 Oscar for Best Animated Short Film, their first Oscar win since For the Birds in 2000.
Well, that wraps up Oscarless Cartoons. I am so sorry that I didn't include Tex Avery's Red Hot Riding Hood. I excluded it because I felt it was not appropriate for my blog.
That's all I have to say for today, folks! Within the next several weeks, I will go over what humanoid and machine-based Pokemon would exist in our world, as well as Pokemon that would live on every continent except for Antarctica..
UPDATE! 7-11-18: Turns out I was wrong about the ending for Reason and Emotion. I was confusing it with the dramatizing cartoon Education For Death.
