Stinky and Jake: Here on the Animal Show.
Here on the Animal Show.
Here on the Animal Show!
Bunnie Bear: From under the ocean, over the clouds, and around the world…
Armstrong the Chickenhawk: Here comes the wild side of wild life.
Bunnie: The Animal Show!
Armstrong: And now, let’s have a wild welcome for your furry friends-
Bunnie: Stinky and Jake!
Stinky and Jake: Now it’s The Animal Show!
Jake: Hello, all you animals out there!
Stinky: I’m Stinky.
Jake: And I’m Jake. And today, we are going to meet the chameleon and the flounder, both of which are masters of camouflage!
Stinky: That’s great, Jake! Jake, what’s camouflage?
Jake: You see, Stinky. Camouflage is when an animal blends in with its surroundings. Some animals look like plants, while others, like today’s guests, can actually change color!
Stinky: Change color? That’s so cool! Can skunks camouflage?
Jake: I don’t think so, Stinky.
Stinky: Well, this skunk can do camouflage! I’ll be right back, Jake! (runs off to find a shirt)
Jake: While Stinky is off running somewhere, here are Bunnie and Armstrong with…
Bunnie: That’s amazing! Today, we take a look at a walking leaf!
Armstrong: Are you silly? Leaves don’t walk. They just lie there on branches of trees.
Bunnie: Well, not this one, Armstrong! A walking leaf is an insect that is shaped like a leaf. That way, meat-eating animals will confuse it for just another leaf.
Armstrong: Now there’s a creepy-crawly who will make you say…
Jake: That’s amazing! (Stinky arrives with a camouflage shirt) Stinky, what are you wearing?
Stinky: A camouflage shirt. That way, I can blend in with my surroundings.
Jake: I can still see you, Stinky. Anyway, here’s our first guest, from the rainforests of Madagascar, Africa, southern Asia, and Europe…
Stinky: Europe.
Jake: Please welcome Camilla the Chameleon!
Camilla: Hello, Jake. Hello, Stinky. Why is Stinky wearing a green shirt?
Stinky: It’s my camouflage outfit.
Camille: I can still see you, Stinky. Anyway, chameleons can change color to blend into our surroundings, like this. First, my brother Pablo is pink like a human.
But now look! He’s green like an iguana!
Jake: That’s so cool! Is it also true that chameleons have long tongues like frogs and anteaters?
Camilla: You better believe it, brother bear. Take a look at this!
Camilla: We chameleons love to eat bugs, so we use our long sticky tongues to grab those that may fly away.
Stinky: Are your tails as fancy as your tongues?
Camilla: As a matter of fact, they are! We use our tails to grab onto branches, like this.
Stinky: You look like a monkey hanging around like that.
Camilla: We do, Stinky. It was great having a talk with you, guys.
Jake: It was, Camilla. Bye now! (Camilla walks off) And now it’s time for…
Stinky and Jake: Baby Talk!
Purple chameleon: Where am I? This doesn’t look like the jungle. Might as well get out of this egg. I must be in some kind of force field, and those eggs must be my brothers and sisters. I hatched first, and that means I’m the oldest!
(Later…)
Purple: Wow, look at all of you, but how come only one of you is purple, and the rest are all green?
Green chameleon 1: We’re chameleons! We can change the color of our skin.
Purple: Chameleon? I always thought I was a gecko. But we still have one more brother-
Green chameleon 2: Or sister.
Purple: Right. Brother OR sister that hasn’t hatched yet!
Green 1: He or she will hatch in a while. Now, we need to find a way to run away from these silly creatures!
(back at the studio, Stinky has changed clothes again; This time, a rainbow tie-dye shirt)
Jake: Stinky, what are you wearing this time?
Stinky: Oh, this? Well, since the set is all colorful, it only made sense for me to wear a colorful shirt. (Tizzy then buzzes by)
Tizzy the Bee: Hi, everyone! Time for a quiz! (cuts to the screen below)
The question is which of these animals changes color? The laughing tree frog, the octopus, the stoat, or the anole? Give it a think. Back in a buzz!
(Tizzy flies back to Stinky and Jake, who are having a hard time finding the answer)
Jake: I believe it’s the octopus. We definitely had an octopus on the show before. Remember Octavio?
Stinky: I’m pretty sure it’s the lizard.
Tizzy: Maybe you should hear the question again. (flies back to the previous screen) The question is which of these animals changes color? The answer is they all do!
The laughing tree frog, otherwise known as the Peron’s tree frog, is from Australia, and males change from brown to green to attract female frogs. However, once this frog turns green, it stays green forever.
Octopuses, or octopi, are masters of camouflage, including this mimic octopus. This octopus uses its unique body shape to mimic other animals, such as a flounder, a lionfish, and even a sea snake!
A stoats’ fur changes color with the season. It’s brown in the summer…
And white during the winter!
And finally, an anole changes color depending on its mood.
Bee-lieve it, because it’s true!
