Movie Review: The Bad Guys 2

Movie Review: The Bad Guys 2                                                                                                       8-1-25

In this movie, Wolf, Snake, Piranha, Shark, and Tarantula have reformed, though none of them except for Snake have landed jobs. One day, the crew is captured by a trio of new animal thieves: A snow leopard named Kitty, a Russian sow named Hog Wild, and a raven named Doom. They blackmail the Bad Good Guys to go back into villainy to steal material to pull off the greatest heist in history: A magnet that can attract gold.

The Bad Guys 2 is the best DreamWorks sequel since How To Train Your Dragon 2 with a story that really embraces the heist genre this time around (more on that later), great animation provided by Sony Pictures Imageworks since DreamWorks stopped animated their movies in-house, another good score from Daniel Pemberton, and returning characters that are just as fresh as they were 3 years ago.

Even though I do really like The Bad Guys, there wasn’t much heisting as advertised. In The Bad Guys 2 alone, however, there are at least four of them.

Mr. Wolf (dressed as a bride) trying to snatch the groom's bracelet.

Rather than Dr. Rupert Marmalade being the villain this time around, it’s Kitty, who actually did appear in the book alongside Hog Wild and Doom (except they’re friends with Agent Fox, who’s real name is Ellen rather than Diane). As for what Kitty and her pack do, let's say that they're the villains you love to hate.

"I'm not exactly asking."

If I were to complain about one thing, I don’t think Marmalade needed to return. It just reminded me of how Boingo (the bunny from Hoodwinked!) returned for the Glob-awful Hoodwinked Too: Hood vs Evil.

In conclusion, even though I still personally prefer Elio, The Bad Guys 2 is still a really good movie to watch for the Summer. Too bad there won’t be any new DreamWorks film until September 2026 with Forgotten Island. And if you’re wondering if I’m up for a Bad Guys 3, sure. Just don’t let it be too much like the books. Without giving anything away, the Bad Guys books become darker as they progress.
