Movie Review: The Water Horse 9-11-20
When a lonely young boy named Angus discovers a large, mysterious egg along the shores of Loch Ness, no one is prepared for what lies within. He soon discovers that the strange, mischievous hatchling inside is none other than The Water Horse, the lake’s most mysterious and fabled creature! But with the Water Horse growing bigger each day, Angus finds it more difficult to keep the creature a secret.
The best way to describe The Water Horse is ET but in Scotland. Instead of having kids discovering and befriending an alien, however, The Water Horse has kids discovering and befriending a Loch Ness Monster.
The strengths in this movie lie in its life-like backgrounds, impressive acting, and CG effects that still hold up very well. I honestly think that Crusoe (the titular Water Horse) looks better than Under Dog and Alvin and the Chipmunks, which were released the same year.
If I were to complain about one thing, I think that the movie runs a little longer than it should.
In conclusion, while The Water Horse isn’t as good as, say, The Iron Giant, it’s a fine movie to watch on a rainy day, but there are much better movies from 2007 to watch.
Rating: 3.4 stars out of 5
However, I do have a warning for those who want to watch this movie: The Water Horse takes place during WW2, so there's going to be explosions.
