In another
world inhabited by Pokémon, a school was having a play in Diggersby Dunes about
how Pokémon evolved over the years. A Buneary and an Electrike were playing
their prehistoric counterparts.
"Fear."
The Buneary began. "Treachery. Bloodlust. Thousands of years ago, these
were the forces that ruled our world. A world where prey were afraid of
predators." The Electrike, dressed as a Luxray, was spying on Dawn Lopps,
the Buneary, in the fake bushes.
"And
predators had an uncontrollable biological urge to maim, and maul, and..."
The Electrike leapt out and tackled Dawn.
"Blood!
Blood!" She exclaimed while throwing out red streamers and squirting a
bottle of ketchup. "And death." While Dawn played dead, her family in
the audience shuddered. "Back then, the world was divided in two: Vicious
predator or meek prey." Two boxes then lowered down and covered the two
Pokémon separately. A Mareep, dressed as an angel, danced around and threw
petals around.
"But
over time," Dawn continued. "We evolved, and moved beyond our
primitive, savage ways." The boxes were then lifted up, and Dawn and the
Electrike were now wearing white robes. "Now, predator and prey live in
harmony, and every young Pokémon has endless opportunities."
"Yeah."
Said the Mareep, who had pink wool instead of yellow like a regular Mareep.
"I don't have to cower in a herd anymore." She then ripped off her
rope and revealed a spacesuit. "Instead, I can be an astronaut." She
then put on a helmet.
"I
don't have to be a lonely hunter anymore." Said the Electrike. He ripped
off his robe and revealed a suit. "Today, I can hunt for tax exemptions. I
am going to be an actuary!"
"And I
can make the world a better place." Said Dawn. She ripped off her rope and
revealed a police uniform. "I am going to be a police officer!"
Keenan White, a Vulpix who bullies Normal-Type Pokémon, couldn't help but
laugh.
"Buneary
cop?" He said. "That's the dumbest thing I ever heard."
"It may seem impossible to small minds,"
Said Dawn. "I'm looking at you, Keenan White. However, only 493 miles away
stands the great city of Poketropolis!" The curtains from behind opened up
and revealed a large drawing of Poketropolis. "Where our ancestors first
joined together in peace, and declared that anyone can be anything!" The
audience applauded, but Mark, a Diggersby, and Elaine, a Lopunny, Dawn's
parents, were concerned.
---------------------------------------------------------------
After the play, everyone headed outside, where a big Berry festival was being held, and Mark decided to have a talk with Dawn.

"Dawn,"
He began. "Ever wondered how your mom and I got to be so darn happy?"
"Nope."
Dawn replied.
"Well,"
He began. "We gave up on our dreams and settled. Right, Elaine?"
"Oh,
yes." Replied Elaine. "That's right, Mark. We settled hard."
"That's
the beauty of complacency, Dawn." Said Mark. "If you never try
anything new, you won't fail!"
"I like
trying, actually." Replied Dawn.
"What
your father means, dear," Said Elaine. "Is that it's gonna be
difficult, impossible even, for you to become a cop."
"Right."
Said Mark. "There's never been a bunny cop. Bunnies don't do that.
Never."
"Never."
Said Elaine.
"Oh."
Said Dawn. "Guess I have to be the first one. Because I'm going to make
the world a better place!"
"If you
want to make the world a better place," Said Mark. "You could always
become a Berry farmer."
"Yes!"
Said Elaine. "Your dad, me, your 175 brothers and sisters. We're changing
the world!" While Mark and Elaine were going on about Berry farming, Dawn
saw Keenan follow an Bunnelby, a Mareep, and a Skiddo. Dawn decided to follow
them to see what they were doing. When she followed him, she saw Keenan and
Blue, a Zigzagoon, picking on the Bunnelby, Mareep, and Skiddo.
"Give
me your tickets right now," Threatened Keenan. "Or I'm gonna burn you
with Ember!" Keenan then pulled on the Skiddo's horns.
"Ow!"
She said. "Cut it out, Keenan!"
"What
are you gonna do?" The Vulpix asked rhetorically, grabbing their tickets.
"Plant seeds on me? I'm a Fire-Type, and you're a Grass-Type, and Fire
beats Grass!"
"Hey!"
Said Dawn. "You heard her. Cut it out." Dawn then approached Keenan
and Blue.
"Nice
costume, loser." Said Keenan. "What crazy world are you living in
where you think a Buneary could be a cop?"
"Kindly
return my friend's tickets." Said Dawn.
"Come
and get 'em." Taunted Keenan. "But watch out, because I'm a Vulpix,
and like you said in your stupid stage play, us predators used to eat prey. And
that killer instinct is still in our 'Dunnah'."
"I'm
pretty sure it's pronounced 'DNA'." Whispered Blue.
"Don't
tell me what I already know, Blue." Said Keenan.
"You
don't scare me, Keenan." Said Dawn. The Vulpix then pushed her to the
ground, and the prey Pokémon ran behind a tree.
"You
scared now?" Asked Keenan. Dawn's nose twitched.
"Look at her nose twitch." Said Blue. "She is scared."
"Cry,
little baby Buneary!" Taunted Keenan. Dawn replied by punching him with
her ears, and Keenan lost a tooth.
"You
don't know when to quit, do you?" He asked. Keenan then took out his fangs
and bit Dawn with them, leaving a scar on her left ear. He then pinned the Buneary to the ground.
"I want you to remember this moment the next time you think you will ever be anything more than just a stupid Berry-farming dumb Buneary." Dawn closed her eyes and fell to the ground, and Keenan and Blue left victorious. Once they left, the Bunnelby, Skiddo, and Mareep emerged from behind the tree and ran towards the injured Buneary.

"That
looks bad." Said the Mareep.
"Are
you okay, Dawn?" Asked the Skiddo.
"Yeah,
I'm okay." Replied Dawn, handing her the tickets that Keenan stole.
"Here you go."
"Our
tickets!" Said the Skiddo.
"You're
awesome, Dawn." Replied the Mareep.
"Yeah!"
Said the Skiddo. "That Keenan White doesn't know what he's talking
about."
"Well,
he was right about one thing." Said Dawn, picking up her hat. "That I
don't know when to quit!"
Author's Notes: 493 happens to be the number of the Legendary Pokémon Arceus. It's also the number of times you can move in the Abyssal Ruins in Pokémon Black and White.
The Mareep in the play happens to be a Shiny Mareep.
