The Shinx Who Would Be King Chapter 11

Meanwhile, back at Pride Rock, things were looking bad. Real bad. All the plant life was burnt down (the Growlithe are Fire-types, you know), the water has been all drank up, and the only Pokémon that still lived there were Kizuato, Luxray, Growlithe, and Xazu. The others, except for Donphan and Rhyhorn, have been eaten by the Growlithe, while the Donphan and Rhyhorn herds moved to a different territory. In the cave where Raion used to be, Kizuato was sitting on a rock throne while Xazu was trapped in a cage made of bones, being forced to entertain the Persian.

"Nobody knows the troubles I've seen." Xazu sang mournfully. "Nobody knows my sorrow."

"Oh, Xazu. Do lighten up." Said Kizuato. "Why don't you sing something with a little bounce in it?" Xazu started a new song.

"We all live in a Pokémon world..."

"No, anything but that!" Shouted Kizuato. Xazu chose another song to sing.

"I've got a lovely bunch of Exeggcute

There they are a-standing in a row" Kizuato started to join in.

"Big ones, small ones

Some as big as your head."

"Oh, I never had to do this for Raion." Xazu muttered.

"What?!" Kizuato yelled. "What did you say?!"

"Nothing." Said Xazu in a startled tone. "Nothing, sire."

"You know the law." Said Kizuato. "Never mention that name in my presence. I am the king!"

"Yes you are, sire." Xazu replied. "I was just using him to compare your managerial approaches."

"Hey, boss." Said Akuto, as he and the other two Growlithe entered the cave.

"What do you want?" Kizuato asked in an unpleasant tone.

"We've got a bone to pick with you."

"I'll handle this." Said Yabani. "Kizuato, there is no food and no water."

"Yeah." Said Akuto. "It's dinner time, and we ain't got no stinking entrees!"

"It's the female Luxrays' job to do the hunting."

"Yeah, but they won't go hunt."

"Oh, eat Xazu."

"Oh, you wouldn't want me!" Xazu intervened. "I'm so tough and gamy and..."

"Nonsense, Xazu." Said Kizuato. "All you need is a little dung."

"And I thought things were bad under Raion." Whispered Akuto.

"What did you say?!" Commanded Kizuato.

"Uh, right on?" Akuto replied.

"Good, now get out."

"Yeah, but we're still hungry."

"Out!" The Growlithe fled upon hearing that, with Oroka leaving out a laugh.

Author's Notes: 'We All Live In a Pokemon World' was the theme song for the Pokemon Orange Islands anime, or as I nickname it, Generation 1.5. It had no Pokemon beyond Generation 1, except for Togepi, Snubbull, Donphan, and Marill, but introduced Pokemon with unnatural colors, which would later become relevant in the games. Also, halfway through this season, Brock would be temporarily replaced with Tracy, who had a Marill as a partner. The song can be heard during the beginning of the movie Pokemon 2000: The Power of One.

I am aware that Exeggcute looks like half a dozen eggs, but they're actually based on coconut seeds.
