A few minutes later, Marc walked over to the office of Gladys, the grouchy lady who gives other Muppets keys to every door in the world. She dislikes Marc because he never returns his paperwork.
"Fazakas." She said. "You forgot to file your paperwork last night."
"Oh, that darn paperwork." Said Marc in a casual tone. "Wouldn't it be easier if it all blue away?" Gladys was not pleased.
"Don't let it happen again." She said.
"I'll try to be less careless." Said Marc, taking the paper from Roz.
"I'm watching you, Fazakas." Said Gladys. "Always watching. Always!"
"Boy, she's nuts." Marc quietly said to himself.
"All scare floors are now active." Said Miss Piggy over the PA. "Assistants, please report to your stations." In the scare floor, Muppets like Marc, Scooter, Luncheon Counter Monster, and a Frackle, among others, were getting ready for the scarers to scare their proper child. The card keys they receive from Gladys have access to every door to every children's room in the world. The key would be swiped like a credit card and a door hanging on a rail would come down. Once everything was all set, Clifford came out and told everyone that today's children that will be scared are living on the eastern seaboard. Soon enough, Muppets like Splurge, Lenny the Lizard, Fozzie Bear, Big Mean Carl, Timmy Monster, and Bobo the Bear, among others, came out of the locker room, ready to scare some kids.
"Oh, they're so awesome." Commented Beauregard. When the scarer Muppets walked to their assistants, on a monitor, it showed and ranked all the scarers from lowest to highest. Splurge was in first place, while Lenny was in second.
"May the best Muppet win." Said Splurge.
"I plan too." Said Lenny. A bell rang, and Clifford began to count backwards from five.
"And we are on in five, four, three, two, one!" He said. "Now start scaring!" The Muppets started scaring children, and it was all fine until Bobo came out of a girl's bedroom crying.
"What happened?" Asked Rizzo, his scare assistant.
"The kid almost touched me!" Said Bobo. "She was this close to me!"
"She wasn't scared of you?" Asked the rat. "But she was only six!"
"I could've been dead!" Exclaimed Bobo, holding Rizzo with his paws. "I could've died!" Rizzo just slapped the bear.
"Keep it together, man." He said. "Hey, Beauregard! Lindbergh! We have a dead door over here!"
Upon hearing that, Beauregard and Lindbergh entered the scene on a cart with a built-in shredder. Lindbergh put security tape on the door, while Beauregard picked up the door and placed it in the shredder.
"Let her rip! I mean shred!" Said Beauregard. Lindbergh pulled the valve and the shredder started shredding the door like paper. When it was done, only two doorknobs remained.
"We've lost 22 doors this week, boss." Clifford said to JP.
"Oh, kids these days." Complained JP. "They just don't get scared like they used to."
On another part of the scare floor, Scooter, Lenny's assistant, tried to get the lizard's attention. On the monitor, Lenny finally scared more children than Splurge.
"Attention, everyone." Said Miss Piggy over the PA. "We have a new scare leader; Lenny the Lizard." Upon hearing that, Kermit, a Frackle, and a happy yellow creature walked over to Lenny and worshiped him.
Meanwhile, Marc was changing can after can after can of screams. Splurge was able to scare a whole group of girls. At a slumber party! On the monitor, Splurge scored a whopping 100,000 screams, and Splurge was placed back on top.
"Never mind." Said Piggy. The gaggle of Muppets (excluding Lenny and Scooter) walked over to Splurge to give him a high-five.
"Well, George." Said JP. "That was an impressive display!"
"Oh, just going my job, Mr. Grosse." Responded Splurge.Author's Notes: Timmy Monster was a full-bodied Muppet who would appear from time to time on The Muppet Show.
Big Mean Carl was a character introduced in Muppets Tonight, usually referred to as Carl the Big Mean Bunny, Carl the Big Mean Bubble Guy, and even Carl the Big Mean Ventriloquist. He comes from a long line of Muppets that have a habit of eating other Muppets.
Like Carl, Bobo the Bear also got his start on Muppets Tonight. In that show, he was the bumbling security guard. He was also in the movies Muppets From Space and 2011's The Muppets, in which he was goofy sidekick to the villain. In the latter film, he even says "Are we working for the bad guy?"
The happy yellow creature appeared in the Phyllis Diller episode of The Muppet Show, in which he sang 'You Are My Sunshine'. He also appeared in the movie Muppets Most Wanted, in which he was referred to as a 'Thingy-Thing'.
Thingy-Thing will appear again in Chapter 13.
