Soon enough, Joe arrived in Evergreen City. He swapped Talonflame for a team that consisted of Manectric, Perrserker, Machamp, Incineroar, and Talonflame. When he entered the Gym, however, it was freezing. Nearly the whole Gym was an ice rink, as it was where Chuso’s hockey team, the Mighty Moosages, would hold hockey matches. This year, their team consisted of Frank, Oliver, John, Milt, Mark, and Erik.
“Hello, there!” Said Milt. “You must be Joseph! You were the one who beat Rainbow Rocket last year. Where have you been?”
“I was stopping another villain this time.” Joe explained. “This time it was Ghetsis, who somehow gotten younger, and he wanted to turn Pokemon into animals!”
“Animals?” Asked Oliver.
“They’re like Pokemon, but smaller and with no powers.” Joe explained. “Luckily, I defeated him, and we can still do Pokemon battles!”
“Speaking of which,” Said Frank. “How about we start the battle right now? Go, Dewgong!” Dewgong was sent out.
“Go, Vanilluxe!” Said Oliver, and Vanilluxe was sent out.
“I chose you!” Said Joe. “Manectric and Perrserker!” Manectric and Perrserker were sent out.
“Manectric!” Said Joe. “Use Thunder Fang!” Manectric bit Dewgong with electric fangs, leaving the Sea Lion Pokemon with half her HP.
“Vanilluxe!” Said Oliver. “Use Ice Beam!” Vanilluxe fired an icy beam at Manectric, leaving the Discharge Pokemon with 70% of his HP.
“Dewgong!” Said Frank. “Use Aqua Tail!” Dewgong smacked Manectric with her strong tail, leaving the Discharge Pokemon with half his HP.
“Perrserker!” Said Joe. “Use Iron Head!” Perrserker charged into Vanilluxe with his iron-clad head, leaving the Snowstorm Pokemon with half his HP.
“Manectric!” Said Joe. “Use Thunderbolt!” Manectric attacked Dewgong with a strong bolt of lightning, and the Sea Lion Pokemon fainted.
“Vanilluxe!” Said Oliver, while Frank returned Dewgong to her Poke Ball. “Use Freeze-Dry!” Vanilluxe rapidly cooled Manectric and dealt 60 Hit Points to him.
“Perrserker!” Said Joe. “Use Iron Tail!” Perrserker smacked Vanilluxe with his short and stubby tail, and the Snowstorm Pokemon fainted.
“Now it’s our turn, Milt!” Said John, while Oliver returned Vanilluxe to his Poke Ball. “Go, Glaceon!” Glaceon was sent out.
“Go, Weavile!” Said Milt, and Weavile was sent out.
“You were excellent, Manectric!” Said Joe, returning the Discharge Pokemon to his Poke Ball. “Go, Machamp!” Machamp was sent out.
“Weavile!” Said Milt. “Use Aerial Ace!” Weavile slashed at Machamp with great speed, dealing about 70 Hit Points to the Superpower Pokemon.
“Glaceon!” Said John. “Use Water Pulse!” Glaceon fired a pulsing blast of water at Perrserker, leaving the Viking Pokemon with 85% of his HP.
“Machamp!” Said Joe. “Use Cross Chop!” Machamp delivered four vicious chops to Weavile, and the Sharp Claw Pokemon fainted.
“Now, Perrserker!” Commanded Joe while Milt was returning Weavile to his Poke Ball. “Use Iron Head!” Perrserker charged into Glaceon with his iron-clad head, leaving the Fresh Snow Pokemon with 60% of his HP.
“Glaceon!” Said John. “Use Blizzard!” Glaceon summoned a howling blizzard that did great damage to Machamp, but not so much to Perrserker.
“Machamp!” Said Joe. “Use Revenge!” Machamp slugged Glaceon with her mighty fists, and the Fresh Snow Pokemon fainted.
“You sure have been doing lots of training.” Said Mark, while John returned Glaceon to his Poke Ball. “Now, it’s me and Erik’s turns! Go, Froslass!” Froslass was sent out.
“Go, Moosage!” Said Erik, and Moosage was sent out.
“Great job, everyone!” Said Joe, returning Machamp and Perrserker to their Poke Balls. “Go, Incineroar and Talonflame!” Incineroar and Talonflame were sent out.
“Talonflame!” Said Joe. “Use Flamethrower!” Talonflame breathed very hot fire at Moosage, leaving the Tundra Pokemon with half his HP.
“Froslass!” Said Mark. “Use Wake-Up Slap!” Froslass slapped Incineroar with her cold hands, leaving the Heel Pokemon with 80% of his HP.
“Incineroar!” Said Joe. “Use Darkest Lariat!” Incineroar swung both his arms and hit Froslass, leaving the Snow Land Pokemon with half her HP.
“Moosage!” Said Erik. “Use Rock Slide!” Moosage hurled large boulders at Talonflame, dealing a great amount of damage to the Scorching Pokemon.
“Talonflame!” Said Joe. “Use Overheat!” Talonflame attacked Moosage and Froslass with full power, which not only knocked out the Snow Land Pokemon, but also lowered the Scorching Pokemon’s Special Attack stat. Moosage still had a quarter of his HP, however.
“Incineroar!” Said Joe while Mark returned Froslass to her Poke Ball. “Use Fire Punch!” Incineroar lit one of his front paws on fire and slugged Moosage with it, and the Tundra Pokemon fainted.
“I can’t believe that you defeated us!” Said Erik, returning Moosage to his Poke Ball. “You deserve the Winter Badge. “He handed Joe a cyan snowflake-shaped badge.
“Pokemon of any level will obey you, even those you receive from trades.” Explained Oliver. “You will also receive this.” He handed Joe TM64, which contained Avalanche.
“TM64 contains Avalanche.” Explained Milt. “This attack does more damage if the user took damage earlier.”
“Thanks.” Said Joe, returning his Pokemon to his Poke Balls. “I have to get going now. I have to rest up to face the Elite Four tomorrow.” Joe exited the Gym, sent out Talonflame, and the two of them flew to Apricot City to rest for the night.
