Joe's Adventure in Chuso Chapter 8A

Later that evening, Alex was riding on his Stoutland, who has been sniffing furiously for Team Plasma. They arrived at Route 4, where Plasma Grunts were using Gurdurr to build Ghetsis’s castle. Right now, they already had the walls and floors done.

“You know,” Said a Grunt. “I was thinking. When Kyurem turns Pokemon into animals, what should we call them?”

“I don’t know about you,” Sand another Grunt. “But how about names that sound similar to Pokemon, but different? Like calling Liepard, say, a leopard?”

“But what about PIkachu?” Asked the first Grunt. “A pika?”

“Don’t be ridiculous!” Said the second Grunt. “Pikachu is classified as the Mouse Pokemon, so why not make it a mouse?”

“Good idea.” Said the first Grunt. “But what is a mouse?” Soon, White Kyurem arrived with Ghetsis and Clyde on its back.

“Our ideals will become a reality soon, men!” He declared. “I’ll be catching new Pokemon for my comeback, and I want a castle when I get back. Got it?” Everyone nodded their heads in agreement. “Good. Now, I’ll make like a Donphan and roll out!” Ghetsis flew off on White Kyurem and headed to Galar to catch some Pokemon.

“I better tell Joe about this.” Said Alex. “We better get going, Stoutland!” Alex hopped back onto Stoutland and ran off.

The next morning, Joe arrived in Cantaloupe City, and the city’s harbor was filled with Chusonese Sinistea. He followed the directions on his Rotom Phone and made it to the Gym, and he was surprised to see who was running it.

“Plumeria?!” Said Joe.

“Who did you expect? Cynthia?” She asked sarcastically. “And yes, it’s Plumeria.

“But aren’t you working with Team Skull?” Asked Joe.

“Well,” Plumeria explained. “After Team Skull disbanded, I decided to look for new work. When Chuso popped out of nowhere and was hiring Poison-Type Gym Leaders, I happily accepted the offer. I love it in Chuso, as it’s not as lush or as healthy as Alola. Enough chatter, let’s battle. Go, Napiat!” Napiat was sent out.

“I choose you!” Said Joe. “Solrock!” Solrock was sent out.

“Napiat!” Said Plumeria. “Use Iron Tail!” Napiat hit Solrock with her long tail, leaving the Meteorite Pokemon with 75% of its HP.

“Solrock!” Said Joe. “Use Zen Headbutt!” Solrock crashed into Napiat head-first, making the Snake Pokemon flinch.

“Solrock!” Said Joe. “Use Stone Edge!” Solrock stabbed Napiat with sharp stones, and the Snake Pokemon fainted.

“Not bad for a novice.” Said Plumeria, returning Napiat to her Poke Ball. “Go, Roserade!” Roserade was sent out.

“That was great, Solrock!” Said Joe, returning the Meteorite Pokemon to its Poke Ball. “Go, Xatu!” Xatu was sent out.

“Xatu!” Said Joe. “Use Air Slash!” Xatu attacked with a blade of air that could slice even the sky, leaving the Bouquet Pokemon with half her HP.

“Roserade!” Said Plumeria. “Use Toxic Spikes!” Roserade laid a trap of poisonous spikes around Xatu’s feet, which would poison whatever Pokemon Joe switched out.

“Xatu!” Said Joe. “Use Psychic!” Xatu hit Roserade with a strong telekinetic force, and the Bouquet Pokemon fainted.

“Good thing my next Pokemon is immune to Psychic-Type attacks!” Said Plumeria, returning Roserade to her Poke Ball. “Go, Skuntank!” Skuntank was sent out.

“You did a great job, Xatu!” Said Joe, returning the Mystic Pokemon to his Poke Ball. “Go, Excadrill!” Excadrill was sent out, but luckily, he didn’t get poisoned.

“Excadrill!” Said Joe. “Use Drill Run!” Excadrill crashed into Skuntank while rotating his body like a drill, leaving the Skunk Pokemon with half his HP.

“Skuntank!” Said Plumeria. “Use Flamethrower!” Skuntank turned his back and sprayed very hot flames at Excadrill, leaving the Subterrene Pokemon with 65% of his HP.

“Excadrill!” Said Joe. “Use Earthquake!” Excadrill shook the floor violently, and the Skunk Pokemon fainted.

“I still have one more chance!” Said Plumeria, returning Skuntank to his Poke Ball. “Go, Crobat!” Crobat was sent out.

“That was great, Excadrill!” Said Joe, returning the Subterrene Pokemon to his Poke Ball. “Go, Solrock!” Solrock was sent out, but it got poisoned by Toxic Spikes.

“Crobat!” Said Plumeria. “Use Venoshock!” Crobat drenched Solrock with a special poisonous liquid, dealing about 80 Hit Points to the Meteorite Pokemon.

“Solrock!” Said Joe. “Use Rest!” Solrock fell asleep and became healthy. Luckily, a Lava Cookie woke it up.

“Crobat!” Said Plumeria. “Use Steel Wing!” Crobat attacked Solrock with her steel-hard wings, leaving the Meteorite Pokemon with 75% of its HP.

“Solrock!” Said Joe. “Use Zen Headbutt!” Solrock charged into Crobat and left her with a quarter of her HP.

“Crobat!” Said Plumeria. “Use Confuse Ray!” Crobat fired a sinister ray at Solrock that managed to confuse it.

“Solrock!” Said Joe. “Finish her off with Psyshock!” Solrock materialized an odd psychic wave to attack Crobat with, and the Bat Pokemon fainted. Suddenly, one of Joe’s Poke Balls started wobbling. He opened it, and it was Charmeleon, who was about to evolve. He grew to Joseph’s height, changed from red to orange, grew another horn, and sprouted gorgeous wings you’d find on a Salamence. Charmeleon has evolved into Charizard.

“I can’t believe I got beaten by a kid twice!” Said Plumeria, returning Crobat to her Poke Ball. “You deserve the Poison Badge.” Plumeria handed Joe a purple skull-shaped Badge.

“Pokemon up to Level 60 will obey you, even those you receive from trades.” Plumeria explains. “You also get this.” She handed Joe TM06, which contained Toxic.

“TM06 contains Toxic.” Explained Plumeria. “This move poisons the target that gets worse after each passing turn! Excellent for Pokemon with high HP like Wailord and Blissey.”

“Thanks!” Said Joe. “I’ll be on my way now. Thanks for the battle!”

“Don’t mention it.” Replied Plumeria, and Joe left the Gym.

Author's Notes: There actually is such animal as a pika. They are small mountain-dwelling mammals that live in Asia and North America. Despite looking like rodents, they're actually lagomorphs, making them related to rabbits and hares.
